The National Portrait Gallery, which was established in 1856, uses portraits to investigate contemporary life and chronicle the history of Britain.
Its Collection is bursting with the tales that have created and continue to influence a country, from worldwide giants to unsung heroes. It promotes engagement with portraiture in all media to a broad public by conserving, expanding, and sharing the largest collection of portraits in the world. It also celebrates the power of portraiture and provide opportunities to interact with some of the greatest and most exciting new artists in the world.
The gallery will reopen on 22 June, 2023, after vital renovtion work and the installation of a new learning centre with an exhibition of Paul McCartney photography and Yolande: Life and Colour.
