The Queen’s Park Book Festival is set to make its return in late summer 2024, showcasing a vibrant mix of both established and emerging literary talents in celebration of the written word.

Set amidst the natural beauty of North London’s Queen’s Park, the festival is celebrated for merging the quaintness of a village fete with the allure of today’s leading literary figures, offering an engaging lineup of events, guest authors, speakers and performers throughout the weekend of 31 August to 1 September.

Featured in the programme is Alan Bennett, the esteemed playwright and author known for works like Talking Heads, The History Boys, and The Lady in the Van. He will appear on stage on the Saturday with documentarians Adam Low and Martin Rosenbaum to talk about his life and career, as well as his upcoming documentary that commemorates his 90th birthday, which will be broadcast on the BBC.

On Sunday, the festival is set to host Michael Palin, who will discuss his latest book that reveals the life of his great-uncle, a casualty of the trenches in Northern France. He will talk with travel book author, Colin Thubron.

Former Green Party leader Caroline Lucas will be attending the festival to discuss her new book “Another England,” which examines England’s significant influence on culture and politics.

Notable fiction events feature the esteemed British-Turkish author Elif Shafak, who will talk about her latest novel There Are Rivers in the Sky. This novel weaves together the tale of a forgotten poem, the journey of two mighty rivers, and the intertwined fates of three extraordinary individuals, all linked by a solitary drop of water. Elif will engage in a dialogue with Claire Armitstead of The Guardian.

Jay Rayner will also participate in the festival this Saturday, reflecting on his 25-year career as a restaurant critic in the UK and abroad, as well as sharing the finest recipes he has collected over the years. His new book, Nights Out at Home, offers a selection of delectable and feasible recipes, inspired by the world’s top chefs. Jay’s discussion will be moderated by journalist Alex Clark.

The Queen’s Park Book Festival Comedy Night is back with an outstanding lineup, including Steve Best and Mark Maier, promising a side-splitting conclusion to the festival’s Saturday evening.
