High Street Kensington Halloween Celebrations

High Street Kensington Halloween

This month the line-up is bustling with attractions, including a massive inflatable, eerie street theatre, a Halloween scavenger hunt, a seasonal farmers market, Yayoi Kusama’s immense polka dot pumpkin at Kensington Gardens, a marauding Godzilla at Japan House, and the debut of the World of Tim Burton exhibition at the Design Museum.

This half term, Kensington High Street is poised to be London’s Halloween hub with a week-long, spooky programme from 25 to 31 October. Highlights include a giant inflatable hovering above the tube station, a complimentary ‘win-a-treat’ Halloween hunt through the streets, and a seasonal Farmers’ Market on Sunday, 27 October. The festivities culminate on the 31st, Halloween night, with a grand, free street-theatre spectacle featuring a host of entertainers and trick-or-treating opportunities.

The streets of the destination are renowned for displaying London’s most elaborate Halloween decorations, and this year, the Design Museum will add to the macabre spectacle. Starting on 5 October, the museum will present The World of Tim Burton exhibition, celebrating the distinctive design and wildly grotesque films of the past forty years (adult tickets £22, children’s tickets £11, and free entry for children under 6 years). It really is a not to be missed spectacle.

Quirky Halloween attractions are also on display in the nearby Royal Parks of Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. Artist Yayoi Kusama’s eye-catching yellow and black polka dot ‘Pumpkin‘ installation will stay in place beside the Round Pond in Kensington Gardens until the 3 November. Meanwhile, an impressive two-metre tall Godzilla statue is installed at Japan House London until the 31 October, marking the venue’s celebration of the 70th anniversary of the iconic film and its legendary Japanese monster.
